About the Tour

The 4 Days Mt Elgon Hiking will take you through Mt Elgon National Park, one of the most beautiful mountain in East Africa and the second highest in Kenya.

The wild and remote location of this national park offers excellent viewing of African animals found in Kenya. There are over 400 elephants plus buffalo, leopards, the colobus and blue monkeys (a protected species), hogs, waterbucks and various species of antelope

A unique attraction in Mount Elgon National Park is its four explorable caves. They are called Kitum, Makingeni, Chepnyalil and Ngwarisha and they are favored gathering places for the elephants

The Park is also home to over 300 different species of birds, including the cinnamon-chested bee-eater, Hartlaub’s turaco and redheaded parrot.

Tour Rules

1. A deposit of 30% is required and the balance to be paid at least 2 weeks before the departure date unless special arrangements are made for payment on departure date.

2. Cancellation received 2 days before the departure date is subject to a 50% cancelation fee while no show will attract 100% fee.

DAY 1 NAIROBI - KITALE

Depart Nairobi with a morning public bus accompanied by the guide and drive through Rift Valley to Eldoret town for lunch. After lunch proceed to Kitale town arriving in the early evening and there by meet your porters and then arrange for the trek for the next day. Dinner and over night in a budget hotel in Kitale.

DAY 2 KITALE - RONGAI CAMP

After breakfast, drive to the park gate and after signing in, drive to Rongai camp and pitch up the tent. Leave the camp and drive to Kitum caves, Chepnyalil, Mackingeny and Rongai caves. You will be able to see salt-leaking elephants mostly at Kitum and Buffaloes and other plain game. Visit the waterfall of Mackingeny which is very spectacular and colonies of large fruit bats and small horseshoe bats which make your day in the mountain very interesting. Lunch will be picnic before getting back to your camp for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3RONGAI CAMP- KOITOBOS

After breakfast, drive to the road head.Hike for 4 hours to the summit which is Koitobos. Enjoy viewing the 3 peaks of Mt. Elgon with Wagaigai which is the tallest but at the Ugandan side. Descend back to the jeep and thereby have your lunch and then drive down to Kitale for dinner and over night.

DAY 4KITALE - NAIROBI

After breakfast, leave with morning bus to Nairobi with lunch at Nakuru town. You are expected to be in Nairobi in the evening.
